Boozy Buddy
UX / UI MOBILE DESIGN
Project Overview
There is always comfort and a sense of safety with going out to the same regular shops, parks, restaurants… and bars. Yes, bars. Young people of the Mornington Peninsula are having to trek to the same ten bars week-in-and-week-out, with the same ten friends (as what’s been reported). So there’s a little dilemma… how do you keep creating unique memories with the same exact variables?
Well, you can download a drinking game (the alcohol is optional) called Boozy Buddy. This way, you can challenge friends to mini games like “Say it or Shot it”, spark new conversations, laugh at each other, and explore Mornington’s top bars in a new light.

Understanding the Problem
Gathered from my personal experience and community gossip, there is clearly a limited number of nightlife adventures a Mornington resident could seek. Yet, we all still want to go out but anything different is too far away and is not in everyone’s Uber budget to get there and back (plus with the cost of drinks and entry prices). So to dial it back down to the root problem, Mornington needs to be fun again.
Key Objectives
Design an engaging mobile game that gets as many people involved playing together.
Create new exciting experiences regardless of the destinations
Invite general public to explore Mornington’s top ten bars.
Enable users to also stored their fun memories through a ‘camera roll’ feature.
Design Process
From researching secondary sources to uncovering key user feedback from field tests and focus groups, I executed a high-fidelity Figma prototype of Boozy Buddy. Incorporating multiple interactable features such as maps, camera/video function, and settings options, to deliver the perfect gaming experience.
Quick Overview:
Through multiple vigorous user tests, I was able to develop three different versions of Boozy Buddy. Meaning that by repeatedly reporting back to test participants, I was able to create a seamless and enjoyable mobile game experience. The field test highlighted the first round of issues and inconveniences with the interface (which I improved).
Fulling User Needs:
Furthermore, the 60 minute focus group confirmed what features of the app work well and what still had adjustments to feel and look polished. These testing practices proved vital to achieving the best version of Boozy Buddy and sound reminder to always value the users’ opinion, in order to get overall satisfaction.
To achieve a necessary level of satisfaction, I focused on two key areas; multi-level use, and a mobile game that seems “cool”. The two real struggles when catering a mobile game for adults are that either they look at things as if they are “too cool” for it, or are really bored of it. So, Boozy Buddy really did need to be “that game”, the “it” of Mornington nightlife.
Solutions:
Therefore, design-wise I went for:
Make it feel like social media because that is “cool” and people love taking photos of themselves drunk (hence why there is a Memories section).
Dark, edgy, Casino Royale aesthetic.
Create a map feature so that non-locals can also enjoy Mornington’s top bars (inclusivity yay).
