Unhook

Overview:

Challenged to come up with a digital interface to educate young people about phishing in a time where scams are ever more developing and strategising to target young individuals in this digital age. The software could be designed to help in any kind of situation and on any platform. In essence, my team resorted to developing a mobile application with a gamified learning program and a helpful quick-search resource that delivers scam identification instantly.

Why:

Unhook delivers essential resources at the click of a button, creating an accessible and supportive experience that builds user confidence, encourages education and empowers individuals to navigate areas of life that can often feel vulnerable to discuss. This is reflected in the subtle colour palette and soft UI elements, which are intentionally designed to create a welcoming, approachable environment rather than an intimidating one.

Our key design decisions:

  • Accessibility: include language settings to support Australia's culturally diverse university student population, allowing users to navigate and interact with the app confidently.

  • Intuitive UI: Use familiar design elements and recognisable features to make navigation effortless, reduce the learning curve and create a seamless user experience.

  • Gamified: Make learning more interactive and enjoyable through badges, icons, characters and leaderboards. Encourage continued engagement without making the platform feel like another textbook.

Design Process:

Although the brief did not require a high-fidelity prototype, I took the initiative as Lead Designer to go beyond the initial expectations and develop a realistic app interface. This allowed me to effectively demonstrate Unhook’s key features, functionality and overall user experience to both the client and target audience.
